THIS NEWSLETTER IS DEDICATED TO RALPH BOWLING, WW II, US MARINE CORPS, KIA 7/4/44 IN SAIPAN. HE WAS A JUNIOR HOME KID JOUMA
FROM THE COMMANDER
Greetings to all Post, Auxiliary and Sons. This seems like deja vu all over again because this is my third tour as Commander. I’m hoping that some of our younger members get involved as Post members before us old guys die off. Well, enough of the whining. All the new officers have been installed for the next calendar year and your participation is much appreciated. I’d like to thank Kevin Koch for serving as commander for the last 3 or 4 years and of course all the other officers for your continued service. If you would like to see what the Amvets is donating to the many charities we donate to, please come to a meeting. The club is doing fine financially and we hope to keep it that way. Well, that’s all I have for right now, thanks to all who patronize the Amvets and thank you for your service.
JIM SPEAKER, POST COMMANDER
FROM THE SONS:
Happy summer, fellow members!! Late newsletter this time, but we don't have a lot to report. Thanks to all for supporting the sons monthly breakfast. In case you don't know, breakfast is served on the last Sunday of every month. The July date will be on the 28th. We can always use a few volunteers to help, just show up and we will put you to work! We could also use a couple sons to help with putting up and taking down the flags downtown this month. Our date is Saturday, July 27. There will be a sign-up sheet in the canteen on July 22. A special thanks to Dan Brickner, Don Houdeshell & all of the officers for helping out the last time. Makes for quick work. We have some events in the planning stages, stay tuned for those announcements. Due to some scheduling conflicts, our July meeting will be held Wednesday July 10, 7:30 pm. at the club. Have a great summer, beat the heat, and stay safe...
Respectfully,
GLENN RODDY, SONS COMMANDER
FROM THE AUXILIARY:
Dear Post, Son's, Auxiliary and Social members,
Happy Summer! The Auxiliary was busy this Winter and Spring and with the help of some Auxiliary members and many special volunteers the Military Banners are hung in Tiffin. We'd like to especially thank these volunteers who hung the banners: AEP (Denny Hohman & crew), Clouse Construction (Lenny, Brian Renninger, Kevin Pritts & crew), Clouse Electric (Tyler Clouse), Larry Breidenbach, Tom Daniel of Tom Daniel Construction and Zeis Builders (Rich, Nick Zeis & Gene Kuhn). This year we were able to get more banners on streets and pulled out of the mall lot and car dealership lots, with the Mayor giving permission of Melmore St and more spots on Sycamore St. The monies collected from the banners are only spent on Veterans of Seneca County! In the month of June alone we were able to help 2 Veterans with some housing and 1 Veteran widow who needed assistance. In May we held a luncheon, chaired by 3rd President Theresa Scherger, for our Veterans in area nursing homes & Kiwanis Apartments in Seneca Co. They played bingo and were entertained by Tunes by Tim (Tim Iannantuono) who donated his time. Please contact myself or any Auxiliary officer if you know of a Veteran here in Seneca County that needs some help.
The Auxiliary hosts and provides desserts for the funeral dinners with volunteers from our Auxiliary. Please contact Vickie Sutter, 419-357-6791, who chairs this committee, to volunteer a few hours and/or a dessert to help with a funeral. All our families depend on us so PLEASE CALL HER!
Our next meetings are JULY 10th (special date), Aug. 7, Sept. 4 , and Oct. 2, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in the Banquet room. Please join us as we help our Post 48!
Honored to serve you,
Delilah Abbott-Woodland, Auxiliary President
Hello to all members! Thanks so much to all of our volunteers for the amazing fireworks display. We had a great turnout for our 4th of July celebration despite the rain! Thanks to all who attended. On August 17th we are planning a seafood boil. We are determining the cost and as soon as we do, tickets will go on sale. You must purchase a ticket in advance to participate and the cutoff will be August 10th. Entertainment will be provided by "Tunes by Tim". We are finalizing the plans and will post as soon as they are. We have made the decision to discontinue lunch on Wednesday and Thursday effective immediately. Our plan is to start again in September. Our kitchen is open on Friday from noon - 9:00 pm. We offer a "special" every week as well as serving from our menu. In addition to our weekly special, we offer a 12 oz ribeye steak with a salad and choice of potato for $15.00. The Friday specials are served starting at 5:00.
**PLEASE NOTE: OUR KITCHEN WILL BE CLOSED
FRIDAY, JULY 26TH**
SORRY FOR ANY CONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.
HAPPY SUMMER!
We hope to see you soon at the AMVETS!
FROM THE ADJUTANT:
I hope everyone has had a chance to see the new surfaces on the shelter floor and patio. It really dresses up the facility.
New member, Jim Duty, Is filling the position of Third Vice. Jim Speaker is the new commander. Past Commander, Kevin Koch, is taking the position of trustee.
We are looking for someone with basic computer skills to help with the newsletter and the webpage. Some office abilities would be needed. It would not require a lot of time and most of the work can be done from home. Any member may apply. You will be compensated for your time.
Post members are encouraged to attend a meeting and consider taking an office. A number of us older officers are not going to be here for ever. If you want to continue to enjoy the best club in town, you better step-up.
JOHN RICKER, ADJUTANT
